Celebrating together can help friends to bond.

It can be all too easy to listen to the news and become downbeat and preoccupied with the negative side of life. However, it does not help you, or anybody close to you if you become so preoccupied with the negative that you no longer look at the good in life. This is particularly important if you have children in your life. Most children have a natural joy that adults could learn from, rather than squash. According the the Wonder of ChiIdhood website, adults should protect children from the fearful side of life and encourage gratitude and joy. You can do this by celebrating special events.

Instructions

    • 1

Make a note of birthdays and special days and try to be the person who remembers other people's special days. Send a card or an ecard, or even call somebody when it is a birthday or anniversary. Organize small impromptu lunches, picnics or even just cake or cookies at work to celebrate small triumphs like the closing of a deal or a promotion.

    • 2

Plan inexpensive celebrations. Many people are deterred from organizing these occasions because of the expense. This is only one way of enjoying a good time, and it is not the necessarily the best way. Some people enjoy themselves much better when they are in an informal setting and can relax.

    • 3

Put time and thought into celebrations. You can make homemade gifts and cards. This is a way of showing real thought and care. If you are good at baking, make a cake or cookies. If you knit or sew, make a simple gift like a scarf, or some lavender-filled hearts. Think of some unusual ways of celebrating also, like organizing a night at a comedy club or the theater.

    • 4

Think of the individual first and foremost when you are planning your celebration. Some people really do not like surprise parties, for instance. Design your celebration around the personality of the person. Some people prefer to celebrate by having dinner with a small intimate group of friends.

    • 5

Indulge your desire to celebrate. You don't have to wait for big holidays. Celebrate small ones or holidays from other countries. Invite coworkers, neighbors, family or friends. Enjoy the food or attire that matches the occasion.
