How to Calculate Intracluster Correlation
When you plot quantities on a graph, the points may fall into clusters that form shapes. When the quantities form these shapes, each cluster represents a relationship between the variables. The correlation between the variables in any one of these clusters describes how closely the variables are related. A correlation of close to 0 suggests a very small correlation. The correlation may go as high as 1 or may go far higher.

1
Draw a line that surrounds the points in one cluster. This should form an oblong shape.
-
2
Bisect this shape with a line, dividing it into two oblong shapes of equal area. This is the cluster's line of best fit.
-
-
3
Identify the coordinates of two points on the line. For this example, imagine points with coordinates of (3, 7) and (5, 12).
-
4
Divide the difference between these points' y-coordinates by the difference between their x-coordinates. Continuing this example: (3 - 5) ÷ (7 - 12) = 0.4. This is the correlation between the variables within the cluster.
