1
Plan out your show and determine how long you want it to last. Most shows go for 10 to 15 minutes but this number can vary based on your budget and type of fireworks. For example, a fountain-style firework can last anywhere from 30 seconds to five minutes while a mortar style will only last a couple seconds.

Calculate the timing for when you will light each firework. Fuses usually burn at different speeds so it is a good idea to cut off a piece and time how fast it takes to burn out with the stopwatch. Once you know approximately how long it will take a firework to shoot off from the time lit, you can record the precise moment of when to start each one.

3
Position the fireworks in groups based on when they will be fired off. Make sure to keep each group spaced far enough out from each other so that they don't accidentally trigger another firework out of sequence.
-
4
Extend the fuses on the group of fireworks that is the grand finale. Do this by twisting the extra fuse line around the end of the firework's fuse until the two can hold together tightly. By doing this, it will allow you to light every single firework and get away in time.
