How to Make an Artificial Rainbow
Rainbows are possibly the best thing about rain showers on a sunny day. However, next time you want to see a rainbow, you don't have to wait for rain. Making an indoor rainbow is simple and fun and a great project to do with your kids. You can complete this project with everyday household items, making this a perfect (and free) way to spend an afternoon with your child.
Things You'll Need
- Clear drinking glass
- Water
- Plain white paper
- Masking tape
- Table or countertop
- Flashlight

Fill a clear drinking glass with water.

Set the glass on the edge of a table or countertop, and place a sheet of white paper on the floor, slightly in front of the table or counter.

Place a piece of masking tape across the right and left sides of the flashlight's head, leaving only a small area for light to escape.

Turn on the flashlight and point it downward, through the glass, at the paper on the floor.
You should be able to see a rainbow of light.
