How to Make an Artificial Rainbow

Rainbows are not just for outside; you can easily create one in your own home.

Rainbows are possibly the best thing about rain showers on a sunny day. However, next time you want to see a rainbow, you don't have to wait for rain. Making an indoor rainbow is simple and fun and a great project to do with your kids. You can complete this project with everyday household items, making this a perfect (and free) way to spend an afternoon with your child.

Things You'll Need

• Clear drinking glass
• Water
• Plain white paper
• Masking tape
• Table or countertop
• Flashlight

Instructions

1. Fill a clear drinking glass with water.

2. Set the glass on the edge of a table or countertop, and place a sheet of white paper on the floor, slightly in front of the table or counter.

3. Place a piece of masking tape across the right and left sides of the flashlight's head, leaving only a small area for light to escape.

4. Turn on the flashlight and point it downward, through the glass, at the paper on the floor.

   You should be able to see a rainbow of light.
