How to Dress a Potato As a Princess
If your child enjoys playing with a plastic potato head doll, you can make this type of pretend play even more interesting and whimsical by creating a real potato head doll. You can even decorate your real potato with a variety of craft materials and transform it into a beautiful princess. All of the colorful and decorative craft materials--such as tulle and glitter--that you'll need to create this project are available at any art supply store.
Things You'll Need
- Hot glue gun
- Hot glue stick
- Tulle fabric
- Bamboo skewers
- Kitchen shears
- 2 plastic jewels
- 2 googly eyes
- Tinsel chenille stick, silver
- Card stock paper
- Markers
- Scissors

Insert a new hot glue stick into a hot glue gun. Heat up the hot glue gun for five minutes.

Cut a piece of tulle fabric to measure 4-inches by 12-inches. Select any color you desire.

Squeeze a line of hot glue around the middle circumference of a large potato. Wrap the 12-inch edge of the tulle fabric around the hot glue. Allow it to cool for two minutes. This will be the skirt of your potato princess.

Cut the pointed tips off of seven bamboo skewers using kitchen shears. Cut each tip so that it is about 1-inch long.

Squeeze a pea-sized dollop of hot glue onto two bamboo skewer tips, and press a plastic jewel onto each glue dollop. Allow the glue to cool for two minutes. These will be the potato princess's earrings. Press the pointed ends of the two earrings into either side of the potato, positioning them about 2 inches down from the top of the potato.

Squeeze a pea-sized dollop of hot glue onto two more bamboo skewer tips, and press a googly eye onto each glue dollop. Allow the glue to cool for two minutes. Press the two eyes into the front of the potato, placing them about 2 inches from the top of the potato.

Bend a tinsel chenille stick into a circle, and twist the ends together. Squeeze a pea-sized dollop of hot glue onto the end of a bamboo skewer tip, and press the twisted section of the chenille stick ring onto the glue dollop. Allow the glue to cool for two minutes. This will be the potato princess's crown. Press the crown into the top of the potato.

Draw a mouth and a nose onto a sheet of card stock paper using markers. Cut out the shapes using scissors.

Squeeze a pea-sized dollop of hot glue onto the end of a bamboo skewer tip. Press the nose shape onto the glue. Allow the glue to cool for two minutes. Press the nose onto the potato underneath the eyes.

Squeeze a pea-sized dollop of hot glue onto the end of a bamboo skewer tip. Press the mouth onto the glue. Allow the glue to cool for two minutes. Press the mouth onto the potato underneath the nose.

Tips & Warnings
Use hot glue under adult supervision. Hot glue is extremely hot and can cause serious burns on skin.
Keep hot glue out of the reach of children.
