How to Curl Bangs Upward

How to Curl Bangs Upward thumbnail
If you tire of the flat, straight look, consider curling bangs upward.

Bang styles evolve through the years. During the 1950s, bangs were typically short, choppy and straight. The "mod" look of the 1960s brought with it longer bangs, smoothed over the forehead to meet the eyebrows. The new millennium ushered in softer, more feminine bang styles. Bangs today may be less pronounced, blending into the rest of the hair more gradually. They may be cut asymmetrically or swept to the side to create a sense of allure. Flipping bangs upward is a way to add variety to your daily style menu. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

  1. Heated Rollers

    • 1

Preheat the rollers. Use a temperature that is appropriate to your hair texture. Fine hair will require a lower temperature than thick or coarse hair.

    • 2

Divide the bangs into two to four sections, if necessary. If your bangs cannot be adequately curled with a single roller, divide them vertically. If each section is too thick for the heat of the curlers to penetrate, divide each of the two sections horizontally.

    • 3
Direct the roller up and away from the face.
Direct the roller up and away from the face.

Place the roller at the tip of each hair section and roll up and away from the face. Secure each roller with a roller clip.

    • 4

Leave the rollers in the hair until they cool completely.

    • 5

Remove the rollers and comb, brush or finger-comb your newly volumized bangs straight back or to either side of your face. Lightly mist with spray if necessary.

    Curling or Flat Iron

    • 6

Preheat the curling iron to a temperature appropriate to your hair.

    • 7

Divide your bangs into two or three sections if they are too thick for the heat of the iron to penetrate.

    • 8

Spray the sections with heat-protectant spray.

    • 9

Start at the tip of each section and roll the hair onto the curling iron, directing the hair away from the face. Leave the iron in the hair for no more than five or six seconds.

    • 10

Remove the iron from the hair and allow the newly curled bangs to cool. Brush, comb, or finger-comb the bangs to the back or to either side of your face. Mist with spray, if necessary.
