How to Open a Sig File

If you have received an email with attachment that has the ".sig" file extension, you have received an email signature block file. A signature block file, with the .sig file extension, is the email signature appended to the end of an email. In many email applications such as Eudora and Thunderbird, the SIG file is a plain text, or ASCII, file. However, in email programs that support HTML and graphics in signatures, such as Microsoft Outlook, the signature files are simply appended as another file type, such as HTML, to the email.

Instructions

    • 1

      Right-click on the .sig file.

    • 2

Select "Open With' from the context menu.

    • 3

Select "Notepad" to open the SIG file in the Notepad application. If the SIG file is a plain text email signature, you will be able to read the file in a text editor such as Notepad.
