How to Tie a Tack Knot
Sewing uses a needle and thread to control fabric. A seam joins pieces of fabric along a line. A tack joins fabric at a single point. Use tacks to join two items without creating a visible line on the outside of the garment. Tack a band of ruffled trim around the inside edge of a sleeve to make a ruffled cuff, or use tacks under the wearer's arms to keep a flowing dance costume in place.

1
Thread your needle with an 30-inch length of thread and knot the ends of the thread together.
-
2
Pin all the layers of fabric together at the point you want to join them.
-
-
3
Stick your needle through all the layers of the fabric at this point. Bring your needle through from the back to the front.
-
4
Stick your needle back in 1/8 inch from the place it came out and stitch back through the layers of fabric the other way. Pull the thread tight.
-
5
Sew two more stitches in the same way.
-
6
Knot your thread loosely near the fabric, making a 3/4-inch loop of thread.
-
7
Stick the point of your needle through the loop of the knot and into the fabric at the point where the thread is coming out of the fabric.
-
8
Pull the thread tight to make a small knot very close to the fabric. Cut the thread 1/8 inch from the knot..
