How to Build a Better Creature With Spore
Spore is a unique world-simulation game by Maxis. The game entails creating a single-celled organism and evolving it through different stages of life. The creature's evolution and success depends on how you build it and the decisions you make in each life stage. After each evolution, you have the opportunity to add or remove body parts and accessories. Building a functional creature with streamlined parts is crucial to your success in the game.

1
Give your creature necessary body parts. Although you have the freedom to create your creature in any form that you wish, it will not do well with three legs and no eyes. Give your creature at least one eye, one mouth and two limbs.
-
2
Place the body parts efficiently. If the mouth is on the back of your creature's head, it has difficulty eating plants or prey. Similarly, if the legs are asymmetrical or vastly different sizes, your creature has difficulty walking around.

3
Build your creature according to its feeding style. If your creature is a carnivore, it needs to hunt. Give it strong legs and claws to successfully catch prey. For herbivores, you need elongated limbs for foraging and finding plants.
-
4
Upgrade the mouth as often as possible with DNA points. The mouth is the most important part of your creature, because it is responsible for singing and eating. If your creature sings well, it coerces cooperation with other tribes in the area. It is also able to eat more food, reducing the time you need to feed.
-
5
Upgrade the defensive and offensive capabilities of your creature as often as possible. If your creature isn't peaceful, it needs large attack capabilities to successfully wipe out surrounding tribes.
-
6
Preview your creature in Test Drive. Observe the way it walks, attacks and feeds in the preview. If something looks erratic, take the time to fix it. It may make all the difference in the actual game.
