Things You'll Need

  • Medium saucepan with lid
  • 2 envelopes of unflavored gelatin
  • 2 tablespoons cold water
  • Spoon
  • 2 cups light corn syrup
  • Red liquid food coloring
  • Pastry bag

Instructions

      Pour 2 tablespoons cold water into a medium saucepan. Sprinkle two envelopes of an unflavored gelatin, such as Knox, over the water and allow the mixture to rest five minutes.

      Turn a stove burner to "low" and heat the water and gelatin mixture. Stir the mixture with a spoon until the gelatin completely dissolves.

      Add 2 cups of light corn syrup to the mixture. Stir well and heat completely.

      Cover the pan with a lid and place it in the refrigerator until the mixture thoroughly cools.

      Add drops of red liquid food coloring to the gelatin mixture until you reach the desired color. Mix the gel well to evenly distribute the color.

      Transfer the red gel to a pastry bag to easily decorate desserts.

  • Store homemade decorating gel in an airtight, plastic storage container in the refrigerator for up to six months.
