How to Turn Off Netopia Firewalls

Netopia is a family of DSL modems created by Motorola. A DSL modem is a network bridging device that relays packets between a digital subscriber line provided by a telecommunication company, and an Ethernet local area network at the subscriber's site. Like most DSL modems, Netopia devices have firewall capabilities built into their hardware, but you can disable this feature with a few clicks.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect the port labeled "Ethernet" on the back of the DSL modem to your computer, using the yellow cable included with the modem.

    • 2

Launch a Web browser, type "192.168.1.254" without quotes into the address bar and press "Enter."

    • 3

Type the username as "admin" and enter the modem's administrator password, then click "OK" to log in.

    • 4

Navigate to "Access Restrictions" and "WAN" in the modem configuration utility. Scroll down to "Enforce firewall rules," then unselect that option. Click "Save Settings."
