Motivating co-workers increases performance levels.

Corporate success is achieved when all the employees work together toward achieving organizational goals and targets. When the performance of some individuals is exceptionally good and others are below average, the company's progress will be affected. Many times, the performance of the superlative employees is impeded due to the under-performing employees. So the star performers may take it upon themselves to motivate their co-workers.

Instructions

    • 1

Explain to your co-worker the relative importance of her job, emphasizing how important the job is in attaining organizational targets. She may not be performing her duties to her fullest potential because she doesn't feel appreciated. So try to involve her in business decisions. For example, if her job is procuring telephonic orders for the company, explain what her contribution means to the company. Tell her that unless she performs her duties well, the company will lose out on orders.

    • 2

Assign work to your co-worker. The reason for unsatisfactory performance may be because she is not occupied enough. If she does not have adequate work to perform during office hours, she may wile away her time on the phone or the Internet. When sufficient work is allocated to her, she will perform better. Ensure the volume of work assigned is neither too little nor too much.

    • 3

Explain the consequences she may face if she does not do her job well and on time. For example, a company's management may be firing or demoting all under-performing employees on the basis of the results of annual appraisals. The co-worker will be motivated to perform well if she is apprised of the magnitude of the possible end results.

    • 4

Explain the company's reward mechanism to the co-worker. Tell her that if she performs well she may be promoted. Explain the benefits associated with the promotion. Also, tell her the monetary incentives and perks she may get. This often motivates the co-worker to perform her job more diligently.
