How to Shoot in Infrared
A film-based camera cannot take an infrared picture, unless infrared film is loaded and an infrared (IR) filter is placed over the lens. A digital camera can be used to take an infrared picture, in much the same manner, except no film is necessary. You will need an IR filter, which can be acquired from a camera store or a hobby shop. The digital camera will be able to revert back to taking standard photos.

1
Aim the remote control at the lens of your active digital camera. Press and hold any button on the remote. Confirm that you see a dot of light on the camera's LCD screen before you release the remote's button. Turn off the camera.
-
2
Place the digital camera on a table with the lens facing up. Blow off dust on the lens with a burst of compressed air. Remove the IR filter from its protective case.
-
-
3
Screw the IR filter onto the lens, using a clockwise motion, until resistance is felt.
-
4
Take sample photos with your infrared digital camera. For example, go outside and take a picture of a bush or the sky.
-
5
Review the sample infrared photos and compare with standard photos.

Tips & Warnings
Since the IR filter will strip out the color in the picture being taken, use a "Black and White" camera setting, if one is available.
