Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a set of plain, unfinished toy blocks from a craft store. If you wish to make an entire alphabet of blocks, purchase 26 blocks. Examine all of the blocks carefully to make sure there are no flaws in the wood of the blocks.

    • 2

Check to make sure that there are no rough, unfinished edges on the blocks. If there are any rough areas on the blocks, use sandpaper to gently sand these areas away.

    • 3

Select a letter stencil for your block. Affix the stencil to the block using painter's tape. Apply nontoxic paint in the stencil area and allow the painted area to dry completely. Remove the painter's tape and the stencil. Select the next side of the block where you would like another letter to be placed and repeat this process.

Choose the area on the block where you would like to paint an image. Using the nontoxic paint, paint the image onto the block and allow to dry. Select the next area of the block where you would like to place another image and repeat this process.

If you would like to add words, you can either stencil the words using small stencils, or you can paint the words freehand. If you choose to paint the words freehand, simply use nontoxic paint and print the word on the area of the block and allow to dry.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the set of toy blocks is a gift, you may want to include the child's name on the blocks.
