How to Texturize With GIMP
GIMP is a freeware photo-editing and graphics application. GIMP has many features and functions you might normally expect to see only in expensive commercial products. One of the useful things about using GIMP is that you can use the graphics tools to add special effects of various types to your photos and other images. For example, if you would like to give a textured appearance to and image, this is easily done in GIMP.

Load the image you want to add a texture to onto your computer.

Start GIMP. Select "File" from the menu at the top and choose "New." In the dialog, make the width and height 500 pixels and click "OK."

Select "Filters" from the menu and choose "Noise." from the options, choose "Noisify." Set the "Gray" slider to 75 and click "OK."

Select "Filters" from the menu and choose "Blur." From the options, choose "Gaussian Blur." In the dialog, make the radius settings 2 and click "OK." Save this file as "texture."

Select "File" from the menu and choose "Open." In the dialog, locate and open the image you loaded.

Select "Filters" from the menu and choose "Map." From the options, choose "Bump Map." In the dialog, turn on "Tile Bumpmap," "Linear Map" and "Compensate for Darkening."

Click on the "Bump Map" button to browse to and open the "texture" image you created earlier. The adjust the slider controls below this until you like the result in the preview. Click "OK" and save your work.
