This is why it is essential to draw any marks you wish to have in the sidewalk made before the concrete sets.   • Board
  • Darby
  • Edger
  • Groover
  • Magnesium float

Instructions

      Pour the concrete into your pouring area.

      Run a 2-by-4 along the surface of the concrete to create a smooth surface.

      Sweep the surface of the concrete with a wooden darby, available from home improvement centers. Push down on lumps to break up any air bubbles.

      Wait for the concrete to set until water appears at the surface.

    • 5

      Run an edger along the outer edge of the concrete to separate it from the forms.

    • 6

      Place a straight board along the length of the concrete.

    • 7

      Butt the end of a groover tool against the board and push down into the concrete with the edger to create a line.

    • 8

      Trowel the surface of the concrete with a magnesium float to smooth out any bumps left by the edges of the groover.
