How to Tie on Trout Hooks

How to Tie on Trout Hooks thumbnail
Catch trout with a strong knot.

Trout are hard-fighting fish that can break your fishing line if it is not properly tied to the hook. Securely tied fishing knots are necessary to prevent fish from slipping out of the grasp of your hook and lure. A properly tied fishing knot will secure your catch back to the creel whether it is brook, rainbow or brown trout. Aside from a secure knot, make sure you use good-quality fishing lines and trout hooks that can handle the size and weight of trout in your fishing grounds.

Instructions

    • 1

Slide the fishing line through the eye of your trout fishing hook.

    • 2

Pull the end and wrap loosely around the line five times starting next to the hook eye.

    • 3

Pass the end of the fishing line through the first loop you made next to the hook eye and then through the large loop.

    • 4

Pull the end and slide the coils down tightly and neatly against the hook eye.
