How to Make a Lashing Knot
A lashing knot is useful for constructing buildings and small structures by binding together two or more poles at their ends, which reinforces the corners of a structure. There are many types of lashing knots for different uses. Lashing knots are like all knots in that it takes continued practice to tie one correctly on every attempt. Properly executing the most common lashing knot, called a square lashing, also requires knowing how to tie a clove hitch at each end of the rope. Does this Spark an idea?

Tying a Clove Hitch
-
1
Loop one end of the rope around an object, such as another piece of rope.
-
2
Make a second identical loop by crossing the end of the rope over the first loop, thereby creating two side-by-side loops.

-
3
Pull the end of the rope under the second turn and pull tight. You've now tied a clove hitch.
