Make a wooden wand using craft supplies.

If your child enjoys pretending to be a witch or a wizard, you can make her playtime more exciting by showing her how to create her very own magical wand. Although you can buy a magic wand from a toy store, they are often constructed out of plastic and feel artificial. Instead of buying a cheap plastic wand, make a real wooden wand using materials that can be purchased at any art and crafts supply store.

Instructions

    • 1

Select a stick to use as your magic wand. You can usually find a wooden stick lying around your yard or on a nature hike. Choose a stick that is already dry.

    • 2

Sand the wooden stick using coarse sandpaper. Rub the sandpaper over the stick for 15 minutes, using small, circular hand motions. This will remove any bark, large pumps or roughness from the wood.

    • 3

Sand the wooden stick using fine sandpaper. Rub the sandpaper over the stick for 15 minutes using the same method as before. This will make the outside of the wooden stick smooth and sleek.

    • 4

Wipe off the stick using a towel to remove any sawdust caused by the sandpaper.

    • 5

Squeeze glitter glue into swirls, spirals, dots or stars over the stick to your personal taste. This will make the wand look more glittery and magical. Allow the glitter glue to dry for 30 minutes.

    • 6

Paint a layer of clear acrylic glaze over the entire wooden wand. This will prevent the glitter glue from peeling off, and will create a glossy sheen that will bring out the natural beauty of the wood. Allow the clear glaze to dry for 30 minutes before playing with the wooden wand.
