How to Get the Perfect Goth Look for Cheap

Express yourself with a Goth look.

Going Goth is about the attitude, not about spending large sums of money. You can change from any look to a Goth one by reusing some of your existing items and learning some basic beauty styling techniques. For a perfect transformation, you may want to practice the application of Goth makeup several times. The makeup is one of the most difficult challenges in a Goth look, as it can make you look like a clown if too much is applied. With practice, you can get a perfect Goth appearance before stepping out in public with friends.

Things You'll Need

• Baby powder
• Black eyeliner
• Lipstick, black or deep purple
• Nail file
• Clear base coat
• Nail polish, deep blue and sheer black.
• Friend
• Hair dye, color or highlights
• Clothes dye, black.
• Fabric paint
• Scissors
• Chains
• Safety pins (multiple sizes)
• Inexpensive jewelry

Instructions

1. Reduce the amount of makeup items you purchase. Apply baby powder to your face for a pale complexion. Create an even application over your face and neck. Use a black eyeliner pencil to outline your eyebrows and eyes. Apply black or deep purple lipstick to your lips.

2. Paint your own nails rather than go to the salon. File your nails to sharp points. Paint a clear base coat on your nails. Apply the polish to the middle of the nail from the nail bed in one continuous stroke to the tip, and then do the sides in the same manner. Use a base coat of a deep blue and cover with a sheer black. This gives a multi-color look as when the sun hits the nail it appears black.

3. Prepare your own hair. Although you may not want to cut your own hair, you can dye it with the help of a friend. Add color and highlights by following the instructions on the box.

4. Dye your existing clothes black. Buy black dye and follow the manufacturers' instructions. Scour thrift shops for additional clothing in black or ones you can dye black.

5. Design your own T-shirts. Use fabric paint to draw skull designs. Tear or cut material to give a shredded appearance. Sew chains and thread different size saftey pins onto clothes for added effect.

6. Buy inexpensive jewelry. Pick up items at the local dollar store. Hit garage sales and thrift shops to find links and chains.
