How to Make a Laminated Bookmark

Make a bookmark using craft supplies.

Bookmarks help you keep your place in the book you are reading, which prevents you from damaging the book by folding down pages or laying the book open. Although you can buy bookmarks at any bookstore or supermarket, you can make the bookmark more personal and meaningful by making it yourself. Instead of simply using paper to make a bookmark, laminate it so that it does not tear or become damaged by water.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a rectangle out of card stock paper that measures 2 inches wide by 8 inches long. Trim the corners so they are rounded. This prevents the corners of the finished bookmark from being too sharp.

    • 2

Decorate the front and back of the card stock rectangle using colorful markers and stickers. Be creative and show your personal flair.

    • 3

Lay a sheet of clear contact paper onto a tabletop with the sticky side facing up.

    • 4

Press the card stock rectangle onto the contact paper, and then lay a second sheet of clear contact paper on top of the rectangle. Press your finger around the edges, making sure there is a 1/2-inch border of sealed contact paper around the entire perimeter.

    • 5

Trim around the perimeter of the bookmark, maintaining the 1/2-inch border. Trim the corners to round them.

    • 6

Punch out a hole from one end of the bookmark using a single hole punch. Position the hole 1/2 inch from the end of the bookmark.

    • 7

Cut a ribbon to measure 6 inches long and tie it around the hole.
