How to Make Mini Rockets
A rocket is a vehicle that gains enough thrust from its engine to be propelled into the air. Rocket ships are commonly used by space programs, such as NASA, to explore the mysteries of space. You don't have to be a NASA employee to experience a rocket launch in person: Miniature rockets can be made at home by using film canisters, antacid and water. Mini rockets may not reach the moon, but they will provide hours of fun for all ages.
Things You'll Need
- Paper
- 35mm film canister
- Scotch tape
- Scissors
- Antacid tablet
- Water
- Goggles

1
Tape a sheet of paper to the middle of your film canister and begin rolling it until the paper covers the entire canister. This will be the base of your rocket.
-
2
Trace the circular end of your canister on a sheet of paper. Cut the circle out. This will be the nose of your rocket. Use your scissors to cut one-fourth of the circle out, then fold the shape so it forms a pyramid. Tape the nose to the top of the film canister, making sure the lid is at the bottom.

3
Cut two triangles out of paper for each rocket you're building. These will be the fins of your mini rocket. The fins can be any size, depending on personal preference. Tape them to the sides of your canister.
-
4
Fill the film canister one-third with water and close the lid. Take your rocket outside and put on your protective goggles.
-
5
Quickly open the canister of your miniature rocket and drop the antacid tablet inside the water. Close the lid quickly and place the rocket back on the ground. Back away several feet. After a few seconds the pressure from the antacid will cause the rocket to shoot up into the sky.
