How to Customize a Sash
Sashes are the pieces of narrow fabric traditionally worn over one shoulder and draping down along the opposite side of the body. Sashes are worn by pageant contestants, graduation candidates, to celebrate holidays, school events or even a bride and groom. Because of the many different venues where sashes are worn, there are many different choices available when picking a sash.

1
Choose the primary color for your sash and trim color if you opt for trim. White may be a good choice for a bride and groom, while a deep crimson may suit a college graduate. The choice will depend on the event and may coincide with a school's colors, for example.

2
Pick which fabric you would like. Some sash makers let you provide your own fabric, while others will offer materials ranging from sturdy canvas to silky satin. You also will need to select how you would like the end of the stash cut. It can be slanted at an angle, cut into a triangle tip or simply squared off at the end.

3
Select the font and wording for your sash. In the case of a pageant contestant, you might have the name of the contestant or the state that she's representing. For a graduate you may want the institution name or the graduate's name.

4
Personalize the sash by adding additional designs or symbols. You may choose to add a family crest if it's to be worn at a wedding or a flag if it's for a 4th of July celebration. Sorority and fraternity members may want to add their Greek symbol, as well.
