How to Maintain Your Waves
Whether you choose to have messy, beachy waves, or smooth, neat waves, it is important to maintain your waves properly. For beachy waves, the more tousled and roughed up your waves are, the better, but for a more glamorous, polished look, you should choose smoother waves. The process of caring for your waves involves some patience and time, and most importantly, the right products which answer your hair's needs. You can get ideal waves, and make them last. Things You'll Need
- Curl- or wave-enhancing products
- Comb
- Hair elastic
- Diffuser
- Curling iron
- Pomade, gel or wax

Wash your wavy hair with a shampoo for wavy or curly hair. Use a conditioner which enhances waves and/or curls. These products will help smooth your hair, keeping the bouncy shape of your waves and minimizing frizz.

Blot hair gently with a towel by scrunching your waves, rather than rubbing them into the towel.

Spray a leave-in product such as a conditioner or mist for curly or wavy hair, which makes brushing it out easier, or use mousse.

Use a comb to gently separate your waves and remove any tangles or knots.

Put hair into a loose bun or braid and secure with an elastic if going to bed or not planning on styling hair now. These hairstyles will keep the natural waves in your hair, but will also keep it smooth overnight.

Air dry without styling it, or blow dry using a diffuser. Diffusers help separate waves and give them a shape and added bounce, rather than blow drying them flat.

Set your waves with a curl- or wave-enhancing product such as gel or pomade.
For beachy waves, use a styling product such as a saltwater spray intended for beach-like waves. Tousle hair with fingers and don't worry if it tangles -- the messier, the better.
For more glamorous waves, use a curling iron to smooth out waves and give them the desired shape. Use it on all of your hair, or on chosen strands only.
