Hampton Bay Ceiling Fans Installation
Hampton Bay ceiling fans are among the top brands for homeowner installation, with designs that are geared toward nonprofessionals. Generally, you can install the fans in place of existing ceiling lights, with only a little more complication than installing a new light fixture. It's important that the fan is hanging from a box that is attached directly to a ceiling joist, and not just sitting in the ceiling plaster. If the box moves at all as you are removing the old light fixture, have a professional look at it to make sure that the box is properly mounted before you proceed with the fan installation. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
-
-
1
Turn off the electricity to the existing ceiling light at your home's circuit box.
-
2
Remove the screws that hold the existing fixture to the ceiling electrical box. Lower the fixture partway, and then disconnect the wires above it by twisting off the wire nuts holding them together, You should be left with a completely exposed electrical box with a white, a black and a bare wire.
-
-
3
Attach the mounting bracket from the Hampton Bay fan to the electrical box, using the screws that came with it.
-
4
Wrap the copper ground wire onto the green grounding screw located on the installation bracket and tighten the screw.
-
5
Assemble the Hampton Bay fan as instructed on the packaging. Leave the blades off for now.
-
6
Carry the fan unit to the mounting bracket and hang it from the hook there so the unit is hanging sideways off the bracket. The wires should be positioned near the electrical box.
-
7
Hold the white wire from the electrical box next to the white wire from the fan. Twist a wire cap over both wires at once. Do the same for the two black wires. If your Hampton Bay fan includes a light unit, there will be an extra blue wire from the fan unit to power the light. Connect that wire in with the black wires.
-
8
Raise the fan unit to the mounting bracket, taking it off the hook on the bracket. Tuck the wire connections up into the electrical box. Secure the fan in position with the provided screws.
-
9
Turn on the electricity and test the motor. If it works, clip the fan blades into their brackets according to the manufacturer's instructions.
