How to Make Adjustments to the Panel Size in Adobe Photoshop CS4

Photoshop panels contain important functions and information vital for image editing. You will need to access panels frequently, especially the "Layers," "Adjustments" and "History" panels. Improve the layout of your workspace in Photoshop CS4 by resizing or minimizing panels and panel groups. Enlarge panels to get a better view of their contents, or decrease their size if they are interfering with your work. The procedure for resizing panels remains constant for most versions of Photoshop. However, the method for minimizing and maximizing panels varies among program versions.

Instructions

    • 1

Launch Adobe Photoshop CS4 on your computer.

    • 2

Choose a panel to resize, and then hold the mouse pointer over the side, top or bottom edge of the panel. When the pointer becomes a double-sided arrow, click and drag to increase or decrease the size of the panel. Floating panels will have a tab located in the bottom right corner that enables you to adjust the panel's size.

    • 3

Click the dark gray top of a panel to shrink it down to an icon, and click it again to restore the panel.

    • 4

Click the light gray area next to the panel's tab to collapse it, and then click again to expand it.

Tips & Warnings

  • Return the Photoshop workspace to its size default by Clicking "Windows," selecting "Workspace" and then choosing "Essentials (Default)."

  • Certain panels have a set size that you cannot change, such as the "Colors" panel.
