How to Prevent Comcast DNS Hijacking
DNS hijacking occurs when the resolution of Domain Name System names is instead redirected to other DNS servers. While this is usually done for malicious purposes, such as "phishing" sensitive account information, Internet Service Providers also do it to drive traffic to their own pages. Comcast deliberately redirects nonexistent or malformed URLs to its own "Domain Helper" service, consisting of a Web page that displays advertisements and alternative search suggestions from other search engines. Comcast subscribers can disable this page by opting-out of the "Domain Helper" service through their "CustomerCentral" user account page.
