How to Catch Cyndaquil in "Emerald"

In the "Pokemon" video game series, Cyndaquil is a Fire-type Pokemon that resembles an echidna. It specializes in speed and special attack, delivering swift and fiery attacks to its opponents. This small creature was one of your options for a starter Pokemon in the "Gold" and "Silver" versions of the game. However, you can obtain Cyndaquil in "Emerald" after you complete the Hoenn Pokedex.

Instructions

    • 1

Complete the Hoenn Pokedex by capturing 200 species of Pokemon. Not all the required Pokemon appear in the "Emerald" version, so you will need to trade some species from "Ruby" and "Sapphire." These species include Surskit, Masquerain, Meditite, Medicham, Roselia, Zangoose and Lunatone.

    • 2

Travel to Littleroot Town in the southeastern section of Hoenn.

    • 3

Enter Professor Birch's laboratory in the southwest corner of the community.

    • 4

Talk to Professor Birch. He will allow you to choose a Johto starter as a reward for completing the Hoenn Pokedex.

    • 5

Choose Cyndaquil. The professor will give you the level 5 creature.

Tips & Warnings

  • Allow Cyndaquil to participate in Pokemon battles to gain experiences. Once it reaches level 14, it will evolve into Quilava, a stronger Fire-type Pokemon. At level 36, it will transform into Typhlosion, its final evolution.

  • By the time you acquire Cyndaquil, your current Pokemon will be far above level 5. Give Cyndaquil the Exp. Share item, which allows it to share the experience earned by your other Pokemon. Your new Pokemon will grow rapidly until its level matches its more seasoned teammates.

  • Although Cyndaquil and its evolved forms are only Fire-types, they can learn a variety of elemental attacks. Use Technical Machines to teach them moves such as Dig, a Ground-type attack, Aerial Ace, a Flying-type attack, and Toxic, a Poison-type move.

  • Your other options at Professor Birch's laboratory are Totodile, a Water-type crocodile, and Chikorita, a Grass-type that resembles a dinosaur. If you already have a strong Fire-type on your Pokemon team, consider choosing one of these creatures, rather than Cyndaquil.

  • Cyndaquil is weak to Ground-, Rock- and Water-type attacks. Avoid opponents that possess these elements. On the other hand, the Pokemon is partially resistant to Bug-, Steel-, Fire-, Grass- and Ice-type attacks.
