How to Use a Samsung Omnia as a Modem for Internet on a PC

The Samsung Omnia SGH-i900 has a built-in application for using the phone as a modem. You can connect a computer to the Internet using a USB or Bluetooth connection. Using a USB connection allows you to charge the Omnia's batteries while connecting to the Internet, while using a Bluetooth connection makes the batteries run down faster. However, you can plug the phone into a wall socket while using a Bluetooth connection.

Instructions

    • 1

Disconnect the phone from the GPRS connection by touching "Start," tapping "Settings" and opening the "Connections" tab. Select "Wireless Manager," "Menu" and then "Disconnect Cellular Data."

    • 2

Plug the USB data cable into the Omnia's charging port. Plug the other end into a USB port on the PC.

    • 3

Tap "Start" on the Omnia's main screen.

    • 4

Touch "Programs," and tap "Internet Sharing."

    • 5

Set the connection type to "USB," and tap "Connect."

Tips & Warnings

  • If your Omnia is paired to your computer using Bluetooth, you can use the phone as a Bluetooth modem. Select "Bluetooth PAN" in Step 4 instead of USB.

  • Some carriers require additional software or an extra data feature on your account in order to use the Omnia as a modem. If you do not see an option for Connection Sharing, contact your carrier.
