How to Draw a Rose With Autocad
AutoCAD is a computer aided design (CAD) program that designers use to draft views of projects with tools analogous to traditional drafting tools. It is most often used to create orthagonal views, such as plans, sections and elevations, but AutoCAD is excellent at producing vector lines and lineweight for illustration and graphic design. Vector graphics are images produced by plotted lines, without pixels as used with raster graphics. Because AutoCAD drawings are vector based, they are precise and you can scale them without losing image quality. Therefore, you can occasionally use AutoCAD to produce line drawings, such as an image of a rose.

Draw a rose using a pen or pencil on paper. Scan the image into your computer using a scanner. Save the scanned image as a BMP, JPG or PNG.

Open AutoCAD and type "Imageattach" in the command line to import your rose drawing. A window will appear; select your image file and click "Open." Adjust the placement, scale and rotation settings to your preference and click "OK."

Type "Spline" to create a curving line and click on the drawn lines to trace your drawing. After each line is complete, press the "Escape" button, then type "Spline" again. Continue this process until you have outlined the complete rose drawing.

Type "Trim" into the command line to trim intersecting lines and clean up the splines.

Select the line, type "Properties" and adjust the value in "Lineweight" in the "Properties Inspector" to change the lineweight of parts of the rose drawing. A common graphic style is to draw a heavy profile line around the image of the rose, then draw moderate lineweights for the change in color or material. Press "Escape" after each change of lineweight to deselect the line.

Type "Hatch" in the command line to add color to the rose line drawing. Adjust the colors and pattern of the hatch fill. Select "Pick Point," click inside the elements you want to color, press the "Return" or "Enter" button on your keyboard and click "OK."
