How to Make Fabric Boots

Fabric boots are boots with fabric uppers that are ideal for wearing as house shoes or slippers to eliminate the need to walk on cold or dirty floors with bare feet. Fabric boots are not difficult to make, and even the most novices can complete the project in just a few hours. Use stretchy fabric or re-purpose an old sweater.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a large rectangle from the fabric -- long enough to reach from the ground to your knee -- or wherever you want the boot to hit on your leg. Make the rectangle wide enough to fit around your calf. If you use an old sweater, use the sleeves.

    • 2

Tape the sweater to the outside edge of the sole of the shoe.

    • 3

Slide the shoe onto your foot. Pull the fabric close around your foot and leg to shape the boot. Use safety pins to hold the fabric in the desired shape. Remove the boot.

    • 4

Sew along the pinned edge of the fabric. Cut off any excess fabric, leaving a quarter-inch flap.

    • 5

Place the bottom edge of the fabric against the sole of the shoe again. Glue the fabric in place with waterproof glue. Allow the glue to dry overnight. Pull the fabric up around the shoe, forming a boot. This will also hide the seam on the inside.

    • 6

Fold over the top cuff of the boot. Sew additional fabric to make a cuff, or simply sew the cuff over twice to hide the raw edge of the fabric.
