Knowing the model, serial number and manufacturing date is crucial when making inquiries about or ordering parts for your Cub Cadet lawn tractor. Information tags containing such details are usually placed in permanent areas of the machine, and you should be able to locate them even after years of use. Most tags are about 2 by 3 inches and include brand name, address and customer service phone number listed across the bottom.

Things You'll Need

  • Paper
  • Pen or pencil

Confirm the Cub Cadet lawn tractor's model number. The chassis model plate is attached to the underside of the seat mount. Pivot and tilt the seat forward to find the decal.

Locate the serial number. The engine serial number decal on model 2146 is located on the left side of the engine blower housing. All Cub Cadet's 2000 series models were made in the year 2000 and later and have serial numbers that are 11 characters in length. A character can be a number, dash or letter. Model 2146 machines have a serial number beginning with the prefix "13."

Determine the manufacturing year. Look for the month and year numbers to the right of the serial number and underneath the letters "DOM."

Write down the information you collect so it is readily available for future use. Place the documentation in a secure location.
