Lolita fashion combines an innocent, naive look with extravagent details.

Lolita is a style of fashion originating in Japan. Lolita fashion emphasizes a cute, sweet, innocent style with high-necked, lacy dresses. Accessories are important to a complete Lolita look, as it is a style that utilizes a lot of small details. Although lacy socks or tights, cute patent-leather shoes and sparkly jewelry are important to Lolita fashion, appropriate headwear completes an outfit. Lolita girls often wear bonnets and headdresses covered in lace for a complete look. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a piece of your base fabric into a rectangle 4 inches by 11 inches.

    • 2

Fold the rectangle of fabric in half vertically to create approximately a square.

    • 3

Cut the corners on the side of the fabric where the edges are folded together to create rounded corners. Unfold the fabric and you will have an oval.

    • 4

Wrap your ribbon around the edges of the fabric and fold it over the edges to create an even edging. Pin the ribbon into place with sewing pins.

    • 5

Sew the ribbon into place using thread that matches your ribbon color in small, even stitches.

    • 6

Cut a length of the thick lace that runs from one end of the fabric to the other; the ribbon runs along the middle of the headdress. Pin the lace into place with sewing pins.

    • 7

Sew the lace into place using thread matching your lace's color in small, even stitches.

    • 8

Tie a bow with your remaining ribbon, trimming the ends to leave a foot of ribbon dangling from the bow. Repeat this to create two bows.

    • 9

Sew a bow onto either side of the headdress where the lace meets the edging. When you wear your headdress, the bow's ribbons will dangle from it.

Tips & Warnings

  • Add to your headdress and create an even more elaborate look by adding additional lace along the edges or adding craft glitter that can be sprayed onto fabric.
