A-Line Bob Instructions

Use scissors and a comb to create the A-line bob hairstyle.

Made famous by celebrities such as Victoria Beckham, the A-line bob offers a modern twist to the classic bob cut hairstyle that originated in the 1920s. While the original bob runs uniformly along the jaw, an A-line bob has an irregular shape that is short in the back and longer in the front and is named because of the resemblance to the capital letter "A." The cut is best designed for hair that is medium to thick in density and can be styled using a blow dryer and a round brush. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Wash hair thoroughly and comb straight, allowing the hair to fall from the crown in a natural part.

    • 2

Separate the hair into seven sections. Use a comb to create a part running from temple to temple across the back of the head. Lightly twist the hair above the part line and use a hair clip to hold it in place on top of the head. Create a vertical part line at the back of the head and gather the hair from just below the top section to just above the ears on both sides of the part. Twist each section and use clips to hold in place. Repeat using the section of hair falling from the top of the ears to just below the earlobes. Allow the remaining hair to fall at the nape of the neck, separated by the vertical part.

    • 3

Tilt the head forward and use a comb to pull the hair at the nape of the neck taut. Beginning at the vertical part, cut a curved line downward and to the right so that the hair is approximately 1/2 inch long. Repeat on the left side of the part to create a curved line running downward and to the left.

    • 4

Release small portions of the center section of hair and continue the cutting pattern, taking parallel sections from each side. Pull the hair between the fingers after cutting each section and visually check for evenness. Cut the section over each ear from the edge of the back section down towards the front of the hair, creating a shorter to longer line that tapers towards the front.

    • 5

Continue the pattern throughout the top section of hair until all of the hair has been cut. Check the shape visually when finished and make adjustments as necessary to create balance on each side.
