Wash your face and apply a light moisturizer. If you want, you can also apply a primer to smooth any scars and imperfections.

Choose a foundation in a shade that blends with your natural skin tone. Use a foundation brush or professional makeup sponge to apply it, creating an airbrushed look.

Apply concealer under the eyes and to any imperfections. You can also use your concealer to highlight the face. Apply it down the bridge of the nose, the middle of the forehead and chin, on either side of the nostrils and at the top of the cheekbones. Blend in the concealer.

Contour the face if desired. Use a foundation or concealer in a shade darker than your natural skin tone. Apply it down either side of the nose, under the cheekbones and under the chin.

Cover your face in a loose powder to set your makeup.

Use the color wheel to choose colors that will coordinate with your outfit.

For a dramatic effect, use blue, which complements orange on the color wheel. Blue eyeshadow will make your eyes stand out and also coordinate with your orange dress.

So choose an eyeshadow in a light, coordinating orange shade or a lipstick or blush with orange undertones.

Use a triadic color scheme. These are the colors that create a triangle on the color wheel. The two colors that create a triangle with orange are green and purple. If you go with this look, use green and purple on your eyes and a lipstick or blush that has purple undertones.

Fill in your brows to define the eye area and add structure to your face.

Apply your chosen eyeshadow. If you use blue, apply it on the lids only. If you use orange, apply this also on the lids, graduating from a white-orange at the inner corners and increasing to a bolder orange at the outer corners. You can also use a combination of orange and purple, with an orange placed on two-thirds of the lid and a dark purple on the outer third. Purple and green is another choice, or use purple, green and orange on the lids, blending them in to one another.

Line your eyes. If desired, you can use neutral colors on the eyes and simply line them in a color that coordinates with orange, such as blue, purple, green or orange. Apply two coats of black mascara.

Apply your lipstick. Choose a shade with purple or orange undertones. You could also wear a light gloss tinted with purple or orange.

Apply blush lightly to the apples of your cheeks. Make sure to take a quick look in the mirror to ensure your makeup is blended well.
