How to Use GameShark on VBA
In the same way that the Visual Boy Advance (VBA) mimics the operating system of the Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance to play video games, it is also capable of mimicking popular cheat code devices (such as the GameShark, Game Genie, Action Replay, and Codebreaker) so you can use cheat codes with your games. These mimicked (emulated) cheat devices are included with the Visual Boy Advance program, require no additional downloads or installation, and are as easy to use as their hardware counterparts.

Tips & Warnings
You can save a list of cheats that you have entered by clicking on "Cheats" and selecting "Save Cheat List," allowing you to save them as a .CLT file. The cheats can be reloaded by clicking "Cheats," selecting 'Load Cheat List" and selecting the .CLT file. This allows you to keep a series of cheats saved on your computer and reload them as necessary.
Entered cheats are also saved within a particular Save State. Any cheats active for a particular Save State remain in the Cheat List, toggled as you set them, as long as you save and load that particular Save State. This prevents you from having to save the cheat list as mentioned in the steps here.
Some cheats require resetting the ROM to activate. Enter the cheat code and press CTRL+R to reset the ROM. The entered cheat will then be active in future gaming. If the particular game allows for in-game saving (not the VBA's Save State), then save before resetting so you don't lose any progress.
Disable all active cheats at once by clicking "Cheats" and selecting "Disable Cheats." This does not delete the current Cheat List. The cheats can be reactivated by clicking "'Cheats" and unchecking the "Disable Cheats" option.
Using ROMs of commercial video games is illegal in nearly all cases; thus, the use of emulators must be confined to homemade games.
