However the development of fast, efficient and secure technology has promoted the use of credit and debit cards to the point where cash transactions are relatively rare. Although credit card payments are secure and instant, the credit card terminals can be expensive. Instructions

  1. Initial Set-Up

    • 1

      Connect one end of the telephone cable to the rear of the machine and the other end to the telephone socket.

      Connect the power lead to the rear of the machine and the adapter to a power supply. Wait for the terminal to perform a self-test and to beep twice, once it has been completed.

      Load the paper. Press the cover tabs, and remove the paper cover. Place a new roll of paper into the holder, ensuring the paper runs under the roll and across the printer. Close the cover, and tear off any excess paper.

    Taking Payments

    • 4

      Press the "debit" button, in the case of debit cards, and then swipe the card through the reader. In the case of credit cards, simply swipe the card.

      Enter the amount of the payment required, and press the "enter" button.

      Tell the customer to key their PIN and press the "enter" button again.

    • 7

      Wait for the terminal to dial a connection and for the transaction to be approved. Tear off the receipt once the transaction has been completed.

    Making Refunds

    • 8

      Press the "debit" button, in the case of debit cards, and then press the "refund" button. Swipe the card through the reader. With credit cards, simply press the "refund" button and swipe the card.

      Enter the amount of the refund required and press the "enter" button. If the refund is to a debit card the customer should enter their PIN and press "enter" again.

      Wait for the terminal to dial a connection and for the transaction to be completed. Tear off the receipt once it has been printed.

    Settling Payments

    • 11

      Press the "reports" button then press "4" and enter again. Wait for the summary to be printed.

    • 12

      Press the "settle" button, enter the password and then "enter."

    • 13

      Press "0" then "enter." Press "Yes" twice to confirm both sales and refunds. Wait for the terminal to dial a connection and to complete the settlement. Tear off the report once it is printed.
