How to Smooth Havaianas for Crystals

Choose a pair of Havaianas and make them your own.

Havaianas, the much-beloved Brazilian brand of rubber flip-flops, were developed in 1962. Inspired by Japanese Zori sandals, colorful Havaianas have taken the world by storm and become a significant Brazilian style export seen on the feet of fashionistas and beach bums alike. The company has teamed up with designers from the Italian fashion house Missoni and Swarovski crystal to make unforgettable sandals. Yet embellishing your own Havaianas to create unique sandals for the beach couldn't be easier.

Things You'll Need

• Havaiana sandals
• Razor blade
• Fine sand paper
• Hot glue gun
• Crystals with flat back
• Tweezers

Instructions

1. Remove the Havaianas logo by slipping the blade under one corner and gently scraping while peeling the rubber off the strap.

2. Scrape off the raised surfaces of the strap where you plan to adhere crystals.

3. Sand the uneven areas to create a smooth finish. Wipe clean.

4. Put a small dot of hot glue on the strap where you wish to place a crystal. Use tweezers to place the crystal and gently press it into place.

Tips & Warnings

• Move the razor blade away from your body to avoid cutting yourself. Use caution when scraping to avoid gouging the strap.
