When you tag another DeviantART user in one of your journals, forums or shout box posts, you create a clickable link that leads to that user's profile. The tag will appear to other DeviantART users as the tagged member's avatar. With tagging, you can help other users promote their artwork if their avatar is one of their pieces. Additionally, you create a more aesthetically pleasing post when you link to other members' profiles with their avatars.
Step 1
Log in to your DeviantART account at Deviantart.com, and navigate to the part of the site in which you would like to tag a user.

Type ":icon" in the location where you would like to tag another user.
Step 3
Type the member's username and ":" in the space immediately following the ":icon" code. For example, to tag "John," you would type ":iconJohn:" at the point where you want his avatar to appear.
