Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Children's Dictionaries
  1. Step 1

Explain to the players that homophones are two words that sound alike, but have different meanings, like "eight" and "ate" or "trunk" (an elephant's) and "trunk" (the back of a car).

  2. Step 2

Take turns making up sentences that contain pairs of homophones - for example, "I can see the sea."

  3. Step 3

    Don't repeat any homophones.

  4. Step 4

Play until no one can think of any more.

Tips & Warnings
  • This game is best played with children ages 6 and up who can understand the concept of homophones.
  • Homophone and homonym are often used interchangeably though, technically, homonyms are words with different meanings that both sound alike and are spelled alike.
