How to Make a Design for Iron-On Crystals

Add some sparkle to a plain shirt.

Iron-on crystals are a way to personalize a garment, or add life to an old T-shirt. You can use them to create pictures, abstract designs, or words. And they make fun team shirts. You can also use them to embellish existing designs on a shirt to add a little sparkle. Although pre-made designs are available, challenge your creativity by making your own design.

Things You'll Need

• Tweezers
• Dish towel
• Iron
• Iron-on crystals
• Pencil or White charcoal

Instructions

1. Wash and dry the garment that you'll be applying the crystals to according to the instructions on the tag. Cover a solid surface, like a kitchen island or a table, with the dish towel. Lay your garment flat over the towel.

2. Sketch your design directly onto the garment; if it's light colored, use the pencil, and use the charcoal for darker garments. Using the tweezers, pick up the individual crystals and lay them along the lines to create your design. Step away from the design to see how it looks from farther away.

3. Heat the iron to the temperature specified on the packaging. Press the iron to the crystals according to the manufacturer's instructions. Let the design cool. Wash gently to remove the pencil or charcoal.

Tips & Warnings

• Ensure that the iron is turned off when not in use, and kept away from children.
