Family portraits can really capture the love within a family.

With everybody leading such hectic lives these days, it can be difficult to catch up in person or even on the phone. Using the Internet to stay in touch with loved ones is a great solution because each person can log on at a convenient time for her and find out what's going on in your life as well as fill you in on her life. The Internet also offers you the opportunity to share photos through social media sites, such as Facebook, as well as on blogs.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose a family portrait you would like to share online. It is fun to see how everyone has changed over the years, so it might be nice to select an older family portrait as well as a new one to post side-by-side. If any of the photos you choose are prints rather than digital files, you'll need to scan them in before you can proceed to edit them.

    • 2

Decide what you would like to edit. Perhaps your portrait wasn't taken in the right light or there are strangers on the sides of the photo. Adjusting brightness and color and cropping a photo are easy edits that can be made with just about any graphics program. If you want to get creative, you could convert your portrait to black and white and just bring out one color in the photo, such as the matching color of everyone's shirts.

    • 3

Make a copy of your image files before you begin editing. This will keep your original files safe and sound so if you're not happy with your edits you've got the originals to go back to. While it's tempting to rely on the Undo function in the graphics program, some modifications cannot be undone.

    • 4

Make your edits. Open your photo in your graphic editing software and adjust colors, crop or make whatever artistic changes you'd like. Save after each step of your editing so if you make an edit you're not happy with you can revert to the last saved version.

    • 5

Post your newly edited photos on the Internet. Whether you're using Facebook, Flickr or a blog you created, each program has a proprietary file uploading system. Locate the page for uploading files and follow the instructions to upload and share your photos with friends and family worldwide.
