Fold dollar bills into hearts for a gift idea.

Fold a dollar bill in the shape of a heart to give to your friends or family members during a holiday, birthday or other special occasion. This is a unique way to turn money into a thoughtful gift that will be one-of-a-kind. Fill a decorative box with one-dollar-bill hearts or fold a $10 or $20 bill and place it inside of a birthday card. The folding techniques of origami, the Japanese art of paper folding, will help you create a homemade gift.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay the dollar bill lengthwise on a flat surface. Fold it horizontally to make a crease, then unfold. Fold it vertically to make another crease, and unfold again. Fold the bottom of the dollar bill up to meet the horizontal line and press down firmly.

    • 2

Fold the right side of the dollar bill up until its side meets the center vertical line and press firmly. Repeat this step for the left side of the dollar bill. Flip over the dollar bill and have the point facing toward you.

    • 3

Fold in the right-side flap until it meets the horizontal fold you made in step one. Repeat for the left-side flap. Fold the top-right and top-left flaps down. You will now be left with four corners on the top of the dollar bill; fold each one inward to create a more rounded heart shape. If you flip it over, you will see your dollar bill heart.
