How to Back Up Skype Conversations

As you chat with users on Skype, a history of your conversations is automatically saved to your computer. You can review these past conversations when you are logged into Skype, as long as you are using the same computer and have not deleted the files where they are stored. If you are worried about losing the conversation history, you can back up the files and store them on your computer or another location.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the "Windows Explorer" icon on the left side of the Windows taskbar.

    • 2

Navigate to the folder where you installed Skype. The default installation folder for Skype is C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Skype,where "username" is the username you use to log into Windows.

    • 3

Right-click on the "Skype" folder and select "Copy."

    • 4

Browse to the location on the computer where you want to store the backup and paste the folder by right-clicking and selecting "Paste." You can also move the folder to a different device, such as a thumb drive or CD.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you want to add your chat history to a new Skype installation, copy your Skype backup folder over the default Skype folder.
