Teeth whitening is easier than ever at home. You can make your own teeth whitening solutions, purchase them from a dental supply company or at a drugstore. One of the best applications of teeth whitening gel is with teeth trays. The only way for the trays to be effective is to have the gel directly on the teeth; custom trays that are fit to your individual mouth work the best to achieve this.

Things You'll Need

  • 2 boil and bite mouth guards or trays (one top, one bottom)
  • Kettle
  • Stove
  • 2 ceramic mugs
  • Tongs

Brush and floss your teeth well.

Place a kettle full of water on the stove and boil. While you are waiting for the water to boil, fill one of the mugs half way with cold water; and set it aside.

Place a tray in the empty ceramic mug. Pour the water over the tray until it is completely covered, usually about half way filling the mug.

Let the tray sit in the hot water for 15 to 20 seconds. Remove with the tongs and dip in the mug that contains cold water for 2 seconds.

Lick your lips, place the tray in your mouth and press it against the top of your mouth. Bite down on the tray. Press and suck all of the water and air out of the tray with your fingers and tongue.

Remove the tray and transfer it back to the cold water. Let the tray sit for 30 seconds.

Place the tray back in your mouth and check the fit.

Repeat Steps 2 to 7 for the lower tray.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use caution when transferring the boiled tray to your mouth. It should be warm, but not burning your mouth.
