How to Dye a Nylon Veil
Almost all veils are only available in white, ivory, off-white or cream tones. If you're looking to have a little more fun with your headpiece -- or your wedding dress is colored -- consider dyeing your veil any shade that you like. If your veil is made of nylon, you can easily and quickly dye it using an all-purpose acid dye, as opposed to a fiber-reactive dye. In just a few hours, your white veil can be any shade under the sun.
Things You'll Need
- 1/4 cup of an all-purpose fabric acid dye
- Large bucket
- 3 gallons of hot water
- Stainless-steel spoon
Instructions
-
-
1
Pour 1/4 cup of all-purpose acid dye into a large bucket.
-
2
Fill the bucket with 3 gallons of hot water.
-
-
3
Soak your veil under warm water, then place it in the bucket.
-
4
Stir your veil in the dye bath very gently using a stainless-steel spoon for 10 to 30 minutes, depending on how dark you want the color. Constant stirring helps to ensure that the veil gets dyed evenly.
-
5
Remove the veil from the bucket and set it aside to cool down.
-
6
Rinse the excess dye from the veil using cool water. Hang the colored veil to dry once the water runs clear.
