How to Chat Using Yahoo Chat
Yahoo! Messenger is designed to allow people to send and receive instant messages to each other, but you can also use the service to join a chat room with other users. While users can no longer create their own chat rooms, there are still plenty of rooms for them to choose from. In order to use the Yahoo! chat rooms, you will need to sign up for, and use, the Yahoo! Messenger application.

Installing Yahoo! Messenger

Visit the Yahoo! Messenger website at messenger.yahoo.com.

Click the "Download Now" button on the main page, and then click the next "Download Now" button on the next page to start the download process. Click "Save file" to save the installation file to your computer.

Double-click the executable file that you just downloaded. Choose "Continue" if your computer asks for permission to install the program. Click "Next" on the first page, then place a check mark in the box saying that you agree to the license agreement, and click "Next." Click "OK" to close your browser, which is required for the installation.

Click "Install" to start the download and installation process. When the progress bar at the top of the screen fills up, your installation is complete.
Chatting With Yahoo! Messenger

Launch the Yahoo! Messenger program.

Type in your Yahoo! ID and Yahoo! password. Then click "Sign In." If you don't already have an ID, visit yahoo.com and click the "Sign Up" link at the top right of the page. Provide information such as name and birth date, choose a user name, and click "Create My Account."

Click "Messenger" at the top of the program window to open up a pop-up window. Move your mouse over "Yahoo! Chat" and click "Join a Room." The "Join Room" window will appear.

Select your desired room category from the list on the left side of the window. Then select your desired room from the list that appears on the right side of the window. The number of people in the chat room will appear in parentheses after the name. Click "Go to Room."

Click "Enter Chat" at the top of the screen. Then type in the letters that appear on the screen. This is a security feature meant to ensure that only people, and not computer programs, can enter the room. Click "Submit" to enter the chat room and begin chatting.
