How to Use the iPad as an Input for Audio in the Computer

It's easy to connect the Apple iPad to the computer via a mini jack audio cable. When you do this, you can send the iPad audio signal to the computer, which in turn plays music or a voice recording over the computer's built-in speakers or external speakers if you have those hooked up. Additionally, you can record the inputted iPad audio directly on the computer.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on your computer or laptop. Power on the Apple iPad.

    • 2

Plug the mini jack audio cable into the iPad's headphone port. The audio port is located on the top left corner's edge.

    • 3

Plug the other end of the audio cable into the computer's "Line In" port. In some cases, you can plug the cable into the "Mic" port, but you may need to adjust the volume and audio controls appropriately to remove distortion.

Open a music or sound app on the iPad. For example, you could open the "iPod" or "iElectribe" app.

    • 5

Begin playing a song or audio on the iPad and test the playback on the computer's internal or external speakers. If you would like to record the "Line In" or "Mic" signal, you can use Microsoft Sound Recorder, which is a free program that comes with the Windows operating system. Files recorded in the program are saved in Windows Media Audio (WMA) format.
