How to Change the Oil on My 2004 Civic Si
Honda released the Civic for the 1973 model year and the first Si trim level appeared on the 1985 Civic CRX. In 1986, Honda released a Si version of the Civic hatchback. The 2004 Civic also came with a Si trim level. This high-performance economy car came only as a two-door hatchback and Honda fitted it with a 160-horsepower, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. Honda recommended replacing the engine oil and filter in the 2004 Civic Si every 10,000 miles.

Instructions
-
-
1
Start the Civic and allow it to reach operating temperature -- about halfway up the temperature gauge.
-
2
Open Civic Si's hood and remove the oil filler cap by turning it counterclockwise.
-
-
3
Raise the front of the Civic with a floor jack, and position jack stands under the vehicle's subframe. Lower the Civic onto the jack stands.
-
4
Crawl under the Civic and locate the oil pan -- the large metal on the underside of the engine. Position a drain pan under the drain plug on the oil pan. Loosen the drain plug, using a combination wrench. Wrap your hand with a towel to insulate it and remove the drain plug by hand.
-
5
Allow the oil to drain until only a few drips come from the drain hole. Remove the gasket from the drain plug and wipe the drain plug off with a clean, lint-free cloth. Install a new gasket on the drain plug and hand-tighten the drain plug into the oil pan. Tighten the drain plug to 33 foot-pounds with a torque wrench and six-point socket.
-
6
Find the oil filter on the bottom of the engine near the front of the Civic. Position the drain pan under the oil filter and loosen it with an oil filter wrench. Remove the oil filter by hand once the oil stops draining from the filter. Place the oil filter in the drain pan.
-
7
Clean the oil-filter mating surface on the engine with a clean, lint-free cloth. Place a small amount of new oil on your fingers and coat the O-ring on the base of the new filter with new oil. Tighten the oil filter onto the engine until the O-ring touches the mating surface and then tighten it an addition 7/8 of a turn.
-
8
Raise the Civic off the jack stands, with a floor jack, and pull the stands from under the vehicle. Lower the Civic to the ground.
-
9
Insert a funnel in the oil filler hole and pour in 4.4 quarts of 5W-20 engine oil. Remove the funnel from the oil filler hole. Reinstall and tighten the oil filler cap.
-
10
Wait about two minutes and pull the oil dipstick from the engine. Wipe the dipstick off with a clean, lint-free cloth and reinsert it into the engine. Pull the dipstick from the engine and check that the oil level is between the upper and lower dots on the bottom of the dipstick, add more 5W-20 oil as needed.
-
11
Start the Civic's engine and allow it to run for about two minutes. Shut the engine down and check for leaks from under the engine. Recheck and adjust the oil level according to the process outlined in Step 10.
-
12
Insert the funnel into an empty oil bottle and fill it with old oil from the drain pan. Close the bottle. Repeat this step until you transfer all of the old oil from the drain pan to the empty oil bottles. Take the bottles of oil and the old oil filter to an oil-recycling center. Many auto parts stores take old oil and filters free of charge.
