How to Make a Halloween Doll
With pointy hats and enchanted broomsticks, witches have become a symbol of Halloween. This holiday, create your own Halloween doll by making a witch out of dried corn husks. The craft is fairly easy, so invite some children to make their own, too. When the dolls are finished, these witches will create a festive Halloween decoration, as they use corn husks -- a material typically found during the fall season -- to create the mascots of the holiday. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Soak eight dried corn husks in water. Leave them submerged for at least five minutes. When they are finished soaking, remove the husks and gently shake them dry.
-
2
Cut 24 pieces of yarn that are each 15 inches long. This yarn will become the Halloween witch doll's hair, so choose yarn in a color you want to represent her locks -- such as black, green or red. Gather the yarn so all the pieces are even. Tie them in a knot at one end.

3
Stack four of the corn husks evenly on top of each other. Place the yarn in the center of these husks, with the knot sitting near the narrow end of the husks.
-
4
Roll the husk layers around the yarn. Cut a pipe cleaner in half. Use it as a cinch to hold the husks and yarn inside in place, tying the wire just below the yarn knot.
-
5
Fold the corn husks over the yarn knot to create the Halloween doll's head. The rest of the yarn will now be sticking out the top as hair. Tie the other half of the cut pipe cleaner below the knot to define the neck.
-
6
Create arms for your Halloween doll by rolling a long pipe cleaner in another corn husk, so that the wire is completely covered by the husk. Tie a short snip of pipe cleaner around each end of this husk-covered pipe cleaner to create the wrists. Place the arm piece between the layers of the corn husk body, moving it right under the neck. Wrap another halved pipe cleaner below the arms to keep them in place and to define the waist. The rest of the corn husks will flow down as the doll's dress.

7
Make the Halloween witch doll's hat by cutting two corn husks into circles with 5-inch diameters. Cut one of these circles in half. Roll it onto itself to create a cone. Keep this shape by poking a cut piece of pipe cleaner through the bottom of the rolled cone and twisting the ends of the wire together. Use scissors to cut an asterisk shape in the center of the other corn husk circle, about 1.5 inches long. Push the husk cone about three-quarters of the way into this hole. Place the hat on the witch's head.

8
Design a broom for your Halloween doll by first fringing the wide end of a corn husk. Make small cuts going about 2 inches up the husk. Cut the husk an inch above the fringe and remove the rest of the husk. Roll the fringe around the end of a 6-inch stick to make the broom. Hold it in place with a small piece of pipe cleaner.
